With 20-year-old Noah Bitsche and 25-year-old Philipp Malicsek, two midfielders are injured for a long time.
Malicsek was particularly badly hit. The native of Vienna, who had switched from Blau-Weiss Linz to SKV during his rehab in August last year after tearing a cruciate ligament and has not yet played a single competitive game for the Red-Whites, suffered another cruciate ligament tear in training without outside influence. He will be out until the end of the season. “It’s extremely bitter for us,” says Madlener, “in the first half against Regensburg he showed how valuable he can be for us.” Malicsek should have played a decisive role in the Steyr game in the spring.
Bitsche, who has played in nine championship games since moving from Altach to Steyr in July, will probably be out for four to six weeks due to another thigh injury. In the test match at SV Ried today from 11 a.m., Madlener has to rebuild his team again.
