There is no question that the war in Ukraine is leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. But what are the consequences for the climate? The Linz Peace Talks presented by OÖN dealt with this question last Friday in the Knowledge Tower.
At the same time, there is an increasing danger that the climate crisis itself will trigger further conflicts. Astrid Sahm, political scientist and guest researcher at the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik in Berlin, Martin Auer from the Scientists for Future, the climate activist and author Lena Schilling and Lucia Göbesberger, the diocese’s environmental and social affairs officer, discussed the topic in keynote speeches, workshops and a concluding panel discussion Linz, with those present.
The result: strong allies such as companies or organizations are needed in the fight for the climate. Unfortunately, there is little interest in the exchange on the part of politicians. An exchange that is characterized by a “culture of dialogue”. It is important “that we think together about what a good life means for us,” said Göbesberger.
