As a water supplier, Energie Ried supplies one million cubic meters of drinking water every year, and almost 20,000 residents are supplied from four well systems. The number of inhabitants in the supply area of Energie Ried is increasing – and with it the need for water: In order to be able to cover this in the long term and sustainably, concrete plans are being made for an additional well. This should be completed in 2024. “This secures the water supply for the next 25 years,” says Wolfgang Radlinger, who is technically responsible for Energie Ried’s water department.
The entire pipeline network extends over a length of 130 kilometers, and 1.75 million euros are earmarked for investments and renewal measures in the current year. “Of course we are also concerned with how we can maintain the water supply in the event of a blackout, i.e. a longer power failure,” says Radlinger. Thanks to measures recently implemented by the municipality, the water supply is guaranteed for at least six days in the event of a blackout.
“From mid-2023, this period will be extended to nine days. The technical systems required for this have already been ordered.” According to Radlinger, even a major power outage should be resolved within nine days.
