“After a thorough examination, we decided to close the branch on Goethestrasse in Ried,” said a statement from the REWE Group at the request of OÖ Nachrichten. Rumors about the closure of the smaller Billa branch had recently made the rounds in Ried. The branch would no longer “meet the requirements of customers”, the decision is justified. The last day of sale will be March 21st.
“We are constantly working on improving and further developing our branch network in order to be able to offer customers a modern shopping experience,” explains the Rewe Group. This includes “the establishment of new stores as well as modernization or, if necessary, the closure of locations”. Aware of the responsibility – especially as an employer – it goes on to say: “All employees will be taken on in surrounding markets and remain part of the team,” explains the group in the statement.
Billa Plus store opens in 2024
The spokeswoman for corporate communications, Karin Dorfner, confirmed that another Billa Plus store will be set up in Ried. “There is no opening date set yet, the market is expected to open in 2024.” The former stadium center near the Klaus Roitinger stadium is rumored to be the location of the Billa Plus store. The former retail park has been empty for years.
