Karina Rando took over as Minister of Public Health after the departure of Salinas

The new head of the MSP took office in a formal act held this Monday at the Executive Tower.

The doctor Karina Rando assumed ownership of the Ministry of Public Health (MSP) after taking office in a formal ceremony held in the Executive Tower in the presence of the Secretary of the Presidency, Alvaro Delgadoand the undersecretary of the MSP Jose Luis Satdjian. The new minister assumes after what the old minister, Daniel Salinaswill leave the position on the day of the date.

Rando had been the proposal to supplant Salinas since Town meeting. “She is a great professional, I know her, she was working with us during the pandemic in a very active way, she traveled all over the country,” said the president. Luis Lacalle Pou.

On the other hand, Salinas had indicated to the press at the end of December of last year that his replacement was a person who “is part of the team, is filming, has a master’s degree in London management. He is a very lucid person and handled the whole tackle by Greg Mortimer very well”, the Australian Antarctic cruise ship that was stranded on the coast of Montevideo during the pandemic, and that the country decided to assist after other borders were closed for their help.

Until now, Rando was general director of Coordination of the MSP, and she served as coordinator anesthesiologist for liver transplantation, as well as head of Anesthesiology of the Military hospital and the National Institute of Orthopedics and Traumatology. She is an anesthesiologist graduated from the University of the Republic and holds a Master of Public Health from The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

Salinas thanked his family and the government team

The outgoing minister used his social networks to thank his closest family, and the team with whom he shared the MSP portfolio. Regarding his intimate environment, he assured that “they gave more than they owed, and everyone banked”in addition to “many times accompanying with a message, other times in silence or with a sob”.

In turn, he highlighted the work of Undersecretary Satdjian, Miguel Asqueta, the ministerial adviser María Giudici, Adriana Alfonso and Sandra Lorenzo, Luis González Machado, Alberto Yagoda, Carolina Rebagliatti, Pablo Picabea, Gustavo Cardoso, Carlos Benítez, Milka Bengoechea, Ana Castro , and Minister Rando herself, among other MSP collaborators.
