The lawyer of the Frente Amplio leader, Diego Camaño, informed the Court prosecutor, Juan Gómez, about the next actions due to the lack of clarity regarding the crime for which he is being investigated.

Almost a month has passed since the change in Leal’s situation was known in the case that investigates the illegal activities of the former head of presidential security, Alexander Astesiano; moment in which the front member went from being a witness to being investigated. Since then, the defense of the sociologist and political leader has demanded on several occasions that they be duly informed of the crime for which he is being investigated. Something that, according to Camaño, has not yet happened.
For this reason, the lawyer advanced the prosecutor of the Court, Juan Gomez, who will present a formal complaint in the event that Fossati – who resumed his position this week after a week of medical leave – does not rule on the details of what appears to be a criminal act that Leal would have committed, and for which he became a condition of investigated in the investigation. The reason, according to the lawyer, is that the prosecutor did not give him the basic guarantees.
According to the defense, in the investigation folder —which would have only 15 pages and 20 audios— the arguments behind the inquiry, while Fossati declared that he was investigating the crime of concealment, within the framework of the case of forged passports. However, Camaño’s team insists that Leal’s only link with Astesiano was the visit to his parents, a meeting in which there was no financial offer either.

“We are collecting a lot of information about the prosecutor’s actions in this case and we will follow the steps that we have to take,” Camaño had advanced at a press conference last Tuesday.
Now, with the notice given to prosecutor Gómez, he must analyze whether there is merits to open an administrative investigation against Fossati, given the alleged lack of guarantees during the process for Leal.
Likewise, Camaño questioned Fossati’s early return, just when his Prosecutor’s Office came on duty. “If the reason for certification was stress, it is reinstated in the middle of a shift, that is, when the prosecutor’s office on duty has the greatest workload,” considered the lawyer, for whom the situation is “truly very particular” that The magistrate must explain.
