The verdict is final, the boy had confessed from the start and was remorseful, the regional court said. “Because I was stupid,” according to his own statement, the accused was present at the riots in the city center on October 31 of the previous year. But he has neither called for firecrackers to be thrown at the police officers, nor has he hurled firecrackers or stones himself.
However, he did not leave voluntarily either, when he noticed how the situation was escalating, the native Austrian regretted in court. He was sentenced to up to a year in prison for taking part in the riots.
A total of 129 teenagers and young adults – mostly with a migration background – were reported on Halloween night. Against 46 a procedure for the deprivation of protection status was initiated.
