under the Latin America Liberty Forum in east pointthe mayor of maldonado, Enrique Antiathrew darts at the national government for the “littletransfers that your department receives in relation to the economic contribution it generates to the country. The municipal chief assured that the assigned resources are out of date because “indices that were handled for many years without discussing them” are in use.

The Fernandino hierarch, assured that he brought before the Congress of Mayors your claim for “commensurate transfers” for an apartment that you believe is erroneously considered to be a “higher-than-average-earning” apartment, and where “they say we have less people than we have“, affecting the criteria for the resources assigned by the national government.

For Antía, from the Executive power “they are handled with old censuses”, since “speak of 140,000 people“living in Maldonado, when the figure”is almost double“, added “to the 500,000 people” who arrive seasonally during the summer season.

In turn, he continued his criticism stating that “they consider you the gross product of the department” for transfers, “but most of the important companies in Maldonado have their headquarters in Montevideo“so the national government”consider that they are from Montevideo“.

Along these lines, he pointed out that due to current technology “it is very easy to know how much VAT (Value Added Tax) is generated in the department and thus receive in proportion what corresponds to us”. According to Antía, this issue has become “a fight” within the Congress of Mayors, in which he perceives that “it will cost a lot to turn that signal around, but we must continue.”

“83% of Maldonado’s resources are its own,” said Antía

The re-elected mayor remarked that 83% of Maldonado’s economic resources are its own, to the detriment of the 17% that come from money from the Executive Power. Regarding this, he indicated that “we are going to continue betting on our own resources”, since these, “give us independence“.

Likewise, he considered that Maldonado is growing because there is “respect for freedom, security, support for private investment“, something that “has generated that many people come to live” in the department, to be able to “develop their small businesses or work from here for the world.”

Finally, he expressed that “freedom is the basis of development, there is no development if there is no freedom“, so that” it is possible to look at the world to see the development of the countries that have freedom and those that do not.
