The first part ended 15 years ago with a court decision: Peter Westenthaler, then head of the Bündnis Zukunft Österreich (BZÖ), was sentenced by the Vienna Commercial Court to retract his statements.

In 2006 he accused the President of the Alpine Club, Andreas Ermacora, of wanting to establish an “Islamic branch of the Austrian Alpine Club” in consultation with the Islamic Religious Community and to want to attach “a crescent moon to a mountain peak”. Westenthaler based his allegations on an exchange of letters between Ermacora and the integration officer of the Islamic Faith Community, which turned out to be fake.

Now this letter is in circulation again. It is mainly distributed via WhatsApp and social media. The Alpine Club notes that it is the same forgery, only the date has been changed.
