The dollar sank 3.08% so far this year

Today’s fall occurs after 10 days in which the dollar depreciated in eight of them. All a sign of the collapse that the foreign currency has been experiencing for more than a week. Last week it closed with a negative balance of 1.42% and in the first days of this it continued to fall.

Thus, of the accumulated 1.5% that showed March when the exchange rate reached its maximum value in two months –last Thursday the 16th– the US currency went to accumulate a loss of 0.15%. The expectations that the evolution of the current month would neutralize the strong drop in January (-3.25%) seem to have been one day before the end of the month, meanwhile, buried.

The values of the peak of March 16 had not been seen since January 16, 2023, when the dollar reached 39.86 pesos. With the practically sustained fall of the last days, the currency He returned to the 38-peso range, in which he had not been since February, and since then he has not managed to exceed the threshold of 39 pesos. March has only one exchange day left, in which the US currency should appreciate 0.43%.

This way, so far in 2023 the foreign currency accumulates a fall of 3.08%. While, compared to the same day but last year -March 30, 2022-, when the exchange rate was 40,969 pesos, the interanual variation was from 5.2% negative.

For many months this variable has not been below 6 percentage points. The year-on-year indicator fell sharply in recent weeks, mainly because, by then –beginning of 2022–, the dollar had already begun to fall after reaching the historical peaks it had registered in the first days of last year. Meanwhile, now, the year-on-year variation remains balanced and collapses every time the current exchange rate rises.
