There will be a change in the management level in autumn at the Freistadt Clinic of OÖ Gesundheitsholding. Michael Hofko (47) will head the Department of Radiology as Primarius from November 1st. He takes over the department from Klaus-Dieter Hönig, who is retiring after more than 25 years at the Freistadt Clinic.

Michael Hofko was born in Linz and studied medicine in Innsbruck. He went through practical training stations in the Elisabethinen hospital in Linz and at the then state women’s and children’s clinic and the state psychiatric clinic. He also gained experience as a doctor in private practice. Hofko has been working as a senior physician at the ZRI of the Kepler University Hospital since 2019. Michael Hofko lives in Leonding with his wife and two children (15 and 17 years old). In his free time, he is an avid skier and also likes to be out in the mountains in summer.

Specialist in MRI diagnostics

The new radiology primary has particular expertise in CT/MRI diagnostics and in the implementation of new MRI devices. Hofko will be able to put this experience to good use in his new position in Freistadt, since it is well known that an MRT device will also be stationed here. Michael Hofko is thus already involved in the planning for the conversion and expansion of the clinic.

Franz Harnoncourt, Chairman of the Board of Management of OÖ Gesundheitsholding, expressly welcomes the personnel decision for the Freistadt Clinic: “I am delighted that in Michael Hofko we were able to hire a personality with a wide range of professional qualifications and who is personable. I wish him and his team in Freistadt all the best for their future work in our company. I would also like to thank Principal Klaus-Dieter Hönig for his many years of service in the company and wish him a nice time in retirement.”
