Incredible increase in poultry meat exports, with 111% in the first quarter

Despite the fact that the average value per tonne fell greatly in the last 12 months, twice as many tons were sold and 19% more invoiced.

The exports of poultry meat showed a jump from 111% during the first quarter of this year, compared to the same period of 2022, reported the National Meat Institute (INAC). In parallel, Uruguay seeks to open markets for this type of product, such as in China.

In terms of export volumes, and according to information from the entity, in the first four months of this year, 455 tons shipping weight of this type of meat. This variable records, meanwhile, a variation of 94.4% compared to the figures of two years ago. That is to say, almost double.

These numbers represented a total billed of $530,000which translates into a significant 19% year-over-year increase in terms of revenue for the sector. Something even more remarkable considering that the average value per ton exported collapsed 44% in the last 12 months and the context of growing concern about the spread of the bird flu in the country.

The average value of the first quarter of this year was $1,164a considerably lower number than the average $2,069 for the same period but last year.

In the last two yearshowever, this variable increased by 25.8%. In the first quarter of 2021, the average value of the exported ton stood at $925 per ton.

Uruguay seeks to export poultry meat to China

He Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP) recently requested the China General Administration of Customs (gacc) the authorization and prioritization of new products for export.

In this sense, the government continues to pursue the authorization to make shipments of poultry meat. In addition to beef jerky (poke), and bovine stomachs and by-productsas well as the renewal and/or modification of the protocols for bovine and equine meat, and salted bovine and ovine casings.

In turn, in a search to strengthen bilateral trade relations with the Asian giant, the government portfolio is looking at updating the health protocols and phytosanitary already signedas well as the search for international sanitary certification models for aquatic products.
