It has long been foreseeable that SK BMD Forward Steyr is in acute relegation trouble two games before the end of the season in the 2nd division, but it is completely unnecessary. Despite some good performances, too many points were given away by mistakes, and the Steyrers, who were cramped from the relegation battle, then stumbled at Sturm Graz II.
Courage injections from coach Daniel Madlener and strength of character from the players are now required. The first opportunity to prove this is on Friday at 7:15 p.m. in the home game against Vienna. “We have two finals and will throw everything into the balance,” says Madlener, “we can still steer it in the right direction ourselves.”
A look at the home table gives the Red and Whites confidence: with 21 points from 14 games, they are in eighth place. However, opponents Vienna also have 21 points away from home. Here forwards is behind with only eight points. However, the situation is made more difficult by the fact that in the last home game of the season, Tobias Pellegrini, Steyr’s most accurate player with seven goals, is out with a thigh injury.
20 minutes before kick-off, captain Alberto Prada bids farewell at his last home game after four years with the club. It will also be the last home game for longtime kit man Karl “Haugi” Hauer.
