Bravo and hats off! At 7.21 p.m. the final siren sounded in the Hallmann Dome in Vienna-Favoriten, which was sold out with 1200 visitors, the well over 100 enthusiastic fans of the Battle of Traunsee chanted loudly “Gmunden, Gmunden” and celebrated the 83:79 (37:32) triumph with the they dethroned defending champions BC Vienna in the perfect revenge for last year.

The OCS Swans turned the tables, they won the final series 3-1, the sixth championship and the second triple of league, cup and super cup after 2010. This sealed the 22nd trophy in the club’s history. “This is a huge success for us. We played a sensational season, the fans are like a rock behind this team. You can see how many there were. The championship title is the icing on the cake,” said Gmunden’s managing director Richard Poiger after a memorable evening in the rain of confetti, which was to end in a lavish party until the wee hours. You have to celebrate the festivals as they come.

“Unbelievable. I didn’t think before the season that we would win all the titles. That’s the crowning glory, I’m incredibly proud of our team,” emphasized captain Daniel Friedrich, who delivered an outstanding performance with 25 points. “We worked so hard for this moment and never stopped fighting. We wanted to end it now and save ourselves a fifth match,” said US Legionnaire Dominic Green.
Compatriot Urald King, the most valuable player this season, impressed with 21 points and eleven rebounds. That was to the liking of Anton Mirolybov, Coach of the Year: “Playing under the basket was key. It was our 58th match this season. I’m overwhelmed, these players have sacrificed themselves, they are like family to me. I knew that if we trust each other, then we will make it. The star is the team,” the Finn exulted.

“The Swans deserve it”

At 7:34 p.m., Friedrich and King lifted the decorative silver trophy, which is 76 centimeters tall and weighs almost ten kilos, to the sound of “We are the Champions”. The way there was rocky, but characterized by dominance over long stretches. Nevertheless, it was not without tremors – for example in the semifinals against the Raiffeisen Flyers Wels (3:2) or in the finish.

The Swans had initially pulled away to 18:5, with 7:13 minutes to go they were 62:66 behind. No reason to throw away your nerves.
