The government advances with the bidding documents to award the former Hotel Casino Carmelowith the aim of turning it into an important tourist spot of Uruguay, of international category.
The specifications with the bases and conditions for the tender of the establishment —which is property of the State— is in charge of a commission made up of the ministries of Tourism and of Economy and Finance (MEF)the Office of Planning and Budget (OPP)the National Administration of Ports (ANP) and the Colony Administration.
As explained by the Undersecretary of Tourism, Rowing Monzeglio, The commission meets weekly with the objective of finishing adjusting the details of the base document.
Currently, the property is in a dilapidated state and the infrastructure is not adequate for the international category requirements, necessary to carry out the ambitious project that includes a hotel, casino, events room and a 200-meter dock for the direct arrival of nautical tourists. For this reason, the specifications provide for a new building that meets the necessary conditions.
In this sense, Monzeglio said that the commission analyzes all the details that the tender must include so that large projects are presented.
What will the new Hotel Casino Carmelo be like?
As explained by the undersecretary of Tourism, the government intends that the private investors present a project that includes a hotel with a convention room for 500 people, a hall for events and shows, a restaurant with international and local cuisine, a heated pool, more than 100 rooms and a 200-meter dock for tourists to arrive in small boats, yachts and sailboats next to the former Hotel Casino Carmelo, after its reconstruction and reform.
In addition, it would be awarded license to operate a private casinoan incentive to achieve the presentation of these projects, indicated Monzeglio.
Likewise, the official highlighted the progress achieved in the commission, which will present the specifications shortly, and highlighted the role of each institution to achieve a project that meets the aforementioned characteristics. “It is a very ambitious projectfor which we hope that many investors will present themselves with various proposals,” he said, adding that the work would promote an international dimension to Carmelo, which It implies more sources of employment, more work for the hotel industry and local gastronomy and greater visibility. “This implies a leap in quality for Carmelo and the region,” he stated.
