The regional court responsible for criminal matters in Graz saw strong suspicion in both the 16-year-old and the 17-year-old, the Graz public prosecutor reported on an APA request on Friday.
The 16-year-old from Graz and her 17-year-old companion are said to have left a bar in Linz on August 9 without paying and got into their car. When the landlady tried to stop them, they are said to have run over the woman and fled. The 41-year-old restaurant owner was run over and critically injured. Evaluations of video recordings and witness statements showed that the 16-year-old may have been behind the wheel.
After the crime, the teenagers fled to Croatia, where they were caught a few days later. On Wednesday evening they were extradited to Austria and taken to the Graz-Jakomini prison. The boy was silent when the magistrate was first questioned about the allegations, the young woman spoke out, but details of the statement were not disclosed. The two will initially remain in custody for two weeks, after which a new detention hearing must take place.
