It turned out that the 57-year-old stayed with a friend after the electric blanket caught fire in her bed. The woman put out the fire with buckets of water, police said. Then – it was around midnight – she left the apartment to sleep with her friend. Two and a half hours later, another resident of the house called the fire department.

The 57-year-old, who had been informed by an acquaintance in the meantime and returned to her house during the fire brigade, was taken to the Freistadt hospital for a check-up, as was her neighbor. She turned on the electric blanket around 11 p.m., then it caught fire, the woman told the police. The Vorderweißenbach fire brigade reported the fire at 4:30 a.m. A total of 80 firefighters were deployed.
