Amazon launched its largest tablet to date this year. The OÖN editorial team investigated the question of whether the eleven-inch Fire Max 11 with the Fire OS operating system really qualifies as a fully-fledged tablet.
Design: The Fire Max 11 is the first Amazon tablet with a metal back. The device therefore makes a very robust impression without appearing overweight. The workmanship is also impeccable. Also positive: the display edges have become smaller. Also new is a fingerprint sensor located in the power button.
Furnishing: Amazon has installed a MediaTek MT8188J as the processor. The Fire Max 11 has enough power for a tablet in this price range, and the system runs smoothly even with more demanding games. Even when doing everyday work or surfing the net, there is nothing to complain about in terms of performance. The display with a resolution of 2000 × 1200 pixels and a refresh rate of 60 Hz is not one of the tablet’s strengths.

Operating system: Although Fire OS is based on Android, users still have to live with limitations. There is no gesture control, the control center’s functionality is rather modest and the design sometimes doesn’t really seem well thought out, but rather like a fulfillment of duty. The biggest point of criticism is the fact that you can only download content from the Amazon App Store. However, the selection here is very poor. If you want to use Google apps, you have to do this on your own and install the Play Store yourself via a detour. On the positive side, it should be mentioned that apps such as Netflix, YouTube and of course Amazon Prime Video are officially available.
Prices and conclusion: The Fire Max 11 is available from 272 euros. However, there is only 64 GB of storage. The 128 GB version costs 302 euros. If you want an ad-free operating system, you will pay an extra charge. The tablet is available to buy with a stylus and keyboard case starting at 395 euros. At least the case, keyboard and input pen make a very good impression. In general, the external appearance of the Fire Max 11 can be rated as positive throughout. The processor is also up to its task. Only the operating system, which was implemented rather carelessly and offers a poor selection of apps, spoils the pleasure.
