By the end of 2025, the Steyr municipal company wants to purchase seven electric buses for use in regular service. The city has been awarded EBIN funding (emission-free buses and infrastructure) from the EU resilience pot. 80 percent of the additional costs for purchasing buses and 40 percent of the costs for setting up the charging infrastructure are financed.

“The e-buses, which are between nine and eleven meters long, are intended to replace our current midi buses,” says Georg Stimeder, transport operations manager at the Steyr municipal company, “we are also currently considering purchasing four more e-buses.” EBIN funding would also be available for these in order to promote the electrification of the public bus network.
Riding on the e-bus is free
After a recently completed test run of the Mercedes “eCitaro”, a Lion’s 10E from MAN has been in test operation since yesterday up to and including Friday, January 26th. “It is already the eighth e-bus that we have shortlisted,” says Stimeder and enthuses about the rapid developmental leaps in this technology: “It is enormous what has happened here in the last few years in terms of range and stability .”
The low-floor bus with a length of 10.5m will be used primarily on lines 4 (Tabor) and 8 (Christkindlsiedlung) during the test period. Riding on the e-bus is free for passengers during this time.
