B&R takes over the majority of a Bosnian software service provider

In April 2017, the Swiss technology group ABB took over the Innviertel specialist for industrial automation, B&R. The Swiss are now strengthening their Austrian subsidiary by taking over a majority stake in the Bosnian software service provider Meshmind, which has 50 employees.

As reported, the Sarajevo branch will become a research competence center for B&R, especially for the development of artificial intelligence (AI) and software solutions for machine automation. “AI-based robotics and automation have the potential to transform industry by providing companies with greater flexibility and intelligence in light of significant global trends and talent challenges,” said Sami Atiya, head of ABB’s robotics and factory automation business.

The purchase price was not disclosed and the transaction is expected to close in the first quarter. “This acquisition builds on our successful collaboration with Meshmind to establish a new global R&D competence center for B&R,” says B&R boss Jörg Theis and adds: “As part of our extensive network with universities, partners and start-ups, this will be “The latest investment strengthens our expertise and capacity to develop solutions that make life easier for our customers and help them shape the future of their industries.”

B&R has a turnover of 673 million euros with 2,150 employees.
