According to Statistics Austria, the construction of 69,900 new residential units in Austria was approved in 2019, compared to 33,900 in the previous year (2020: 63,600, 2021: 60,100, 2022: 47,000).

A further decline is expected this year. Of the expected 32,600 approvals, it can be assumed that a significant proportion will not be implemented, it is said. There are around 300,000 people employed in the construction industry in Austria, which is around eight percent of all employees.
