At a press conference in Vienna, they called for de-bureaucratization, earmarking of housing subsidies, investment support and easier lending.
Otherwise there would be a lack of housing, rising rent prices as well as staff cuts and location closures. According to Statistics Austria, the construction of 69,900 new residential units in Austria was approved in 2019, compared to 33,900 in the previous year (2020: 63,600, 2021: 60,100, 2022: 47,000).

Further decline
A further decline is expected this year. Of the expected 32,600 approvals, it can be assumed that a significant proportion will not be implemented, it is said. There are around 300,000 people employed in the construction industry in Austria, which is around eight percent of all employees.
