He Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining (MIEM) signed a collaboration agreement with the American software company Nvidia, that aims to generate opportunities for the development of Artificial intelligence (AI) in the country.
The memorandum of understanding, endorsed virtually by the minister Elisa Facio and the vice president of the technology company, Keith Strier, It also seeks to consolidate Uruguay as an innovation hub.
The innovation advisor of the MIEM, Pascual Gattas, He highlighted in dialogue with EFE that the “long process” of negotiation with Nvidia began in 2021 and highlighted that it is the third country to close this type of agreement with the company.
“It is part of the agreements that Nvidia is making worldwide in what they call AI nations or AI countries,” he said. Gattas on an agreement that was already in force in Ecuador and Brazil.
The agreement, which is added to others of the government such as those of Microsoft, Amazon and Qualcomm Technologies, It covers topics related to professional training from education, promoting training in AI skills, good practices in data governance, cybersecurity and promotion of artificial intelligence research centers.

The leader highlighted that the American firm created “a hardware and software equipment platform that allows for solutions for the development of autonomous machines with AI technology.”
“In Uruguay There are dozens of companies that have been working on AI for years and providing services such as image management. What we seek is to enhance these capabilities,” observed Gattas, focusing on the cybersecurity and data management, considering that “data privacy” is key to a successful outcome.
“Integrating AI technologies into cybersecurity allows for better results in the analysis of large volumes of data and in the detection of security vulnerabilities,” concluded the MIEM advisor.
