The government warned that Venezuela intensified its dictatorship

Vice President Beatriz Argimón pointed out that there are contacts with the Venezuelan opposition and that they observe “with concern” the development of the electoral process.

The Vice President of the Republic, Beatriz Argimónwarned that the Venezuela is going through “a process of intensification of its dictatorship” after the National Electoral Council (CNE) of that country would deny registration to Maria Corina Machadowho was the winner by a wide margin of the opposition primary electionsand then his substitute Corina Yoris.

This Thursday, at a press conference, Argimón stated that in recent times “there has been a process of worsening in what is the Venezuelan dictatorship, in instances where an eventual election is called,” and that for this to be such “it must there is plurality.”

“Those who are part of the government and part of the opposition must have the right to appear in free elections and democratic,” said the vice president, who added: “We have been in contact with the Venezuelan opposition, we are informed.”

Likewise, he maintained that “they are concerned” by the fact that there is no news of the whereabouts of “part of the command” of Maria Corina Machado. “It is worth having our position very clear regarding the times ahead regarding that election,” he pointed out in this regard.

“If there is a time when Uruguay should have representation in Venezuela, it is now”

At the diplomatic level, he expressed that “if there is a moment where Uruguay must have democratic representation in Venezuelais now”, in reference to the brand new designation of Silvana Montes de Oca as new Uruguayan ambassador in Caracas in replacement of Eber da Rosa.

Argimón assured that he shares the vision of President Luis Lacalle Pou that “the links are with the people and not with the governments”, since “the link with the governments occurs in other scenarios”.

“We have to remember what Venezuelan democracy was, when there was democracy in Venezuelaand we had a military dictatorship,” he commented on what the Uruguayan exiles were like during that period.
