The victim and a witness told police that they just wanted to buy cigarettes from a vending machine when they were approached by several men. The unknown perpetrators are said to have demanded that the cell phones be handed over. When the victim did not comply with the request, he was attacked with a knife by one of the unknown perpetrators. The group then fled.

The Vienna professional rescue service provided the injured person with emergency medical care and took him to a hospital. Immediate searches for the fleeing suspects were unsuccessful. The Vienna State Criminal Police Office, South Branch, was entrusted with further investigations.
