A treasure hunt by father and son, both from the Wels-Land district, ended in horror on Friday. The two were looking for “interesting objects” with a metal detector in the late afternoon, says Friedrich Stadlmayr from the state police headquarters. Something apparently piqued their interest. According to the police, the 50-year-old then tried to climb down a steep slope to get the object in question. To do so, he held on to a branch, but it suddenly gave way.
The father lost his balance, fell over a vertical rock face several meters high and ended up lying about halfway down the steep slope. His son could only watch helplessly – and alert the rescue services.
