According to state wildlife ecologist Hubert Schatz, who secured the tracks discovered by a hiker on Monday morning, these are clearly the tracks of a bear, the state of Vorarlberg announced on Monday. A hiker noticed the tracks on Sunday evening and informed the authorities. “There is no reason to panic. However, since this area is a busy local recreation area, certain behavioral recommendations must be followed,” explained Schatz.

Firstly, you should be particularly careful in the area in question, only stay on the marked paths and keep dogs on a leash. Nighttime or twilight walks in the forest should be avoided and food or waste should never be left in the forest, near huts or on the edge of the forest. Farm animals should stay in the stable overnight if possible, and the state recommends securing beehives with electric fences. Anyone who discovers tracks or even sees a bear is asked to contact the police, the district authority or the state wildlife ecologist.
