A 54-year-old man from the Ried district has been in custody in the Ried correctional facility for some time. The defendant, who is presumed innocent, will be tried in Ried next Monday. The public prosecutor’s office accuses the accused of, among other things, the crimes of rape as a specific perpetrator and serious sexual abuse of minors as a specific perpetrator. The period of the heinous crimes allegedly took place between October 2018 and June 2022, i.e. almost four years.
According to the indictment, the 54-year-old is said to have commissioned sexual acts on underage girls in the Philippines via online video chats. The Innviertel native is said to have offered money for a rape on camera.
Head of the Braunau district also in custody
A similar case is also looming against a municipal manager in the Braunau district. At the end of January, the shocking allegations against the 58-year-old were made public, as reported. The man is even said to have paid for live streams of children being abused in the Philippines from a municipal computer. He is also accused of instructing adults to torture the children in a “particularly degrading manner” while he watched via webcam. A trial date has not yet been set.
If convicted, the two defendants could face up to 15 years in prison. The same penalties apply to a designated offender as to the direct perpetrator. Paragraph 206, Section 3 of the Criminal Code states: “If the minor is placed in a state of torment or is particularly humiliated, the perpetrator is to be punished with a prison sentence of five to 15 years.”
