Missing after storm: 77-year-old found dead in southern Burgenland
The storms have caused great damage in the Oberwart district.

The Burgenland State Police Directorate confirmed a report by ORF Burgenland. The missing man’s car was discovered near Kotezicken. The river had overflowed its banks in large areas there. The man had been missing since Sunday as a result of the storms. The high water level of the Pinka and the murky water had made the search difficult. Helicopters and drones were used, among other things.

Situation in flood areas stable

The situation in the flood areas in southern Burgenland was stable on Tuesday afternoon. Initially, there were fears that the level of the Pinka would rise – but this was not the case, according to the state media service. The dam at the reservoir in Rauchwart is also stable and is being constantly monitored. Safety measures are currently being carried out here. A spokeswoman explained that embankments are being used to prevent the main dam from breaking. In addition, the measures announced by Governor Hans Peter Doskozil (SPÖ) on Monday – for example, to assess the damage – are being prepared.
