A collective term for everyone who does not feel that they belong to the majority society in terms of their sexual orientation or identity. Put simply: people who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transsexual or intersexual. A term that the so-called “LGBTQIA” community had to reinterpret. Because previously “queer” was considered an insult, stood for strange, suspicious or crazy. The very first Pride in the Salzkammergut was also crazy – but in a positive sense.
Around 2,000 people flocked to the imperial city on Saturday afternoon to celebrate a festival of diversity. The organizing team around Birgit Hofstätter and Christina Jaritsch had been working on the event for months. The Capital of Culture has had a related project called “Salzkammerqueer” since the beginning of the year.
