The number of recorded properties used by right-wing extremists has almost doubled since 2017. A trend is emerging as to where these are particularly frequently located.
Right-wing extremists primarily use real estate in the eastern German federal states. This was announced by the Interior Ministry of Saxony-Anhalt in Magdeburg. It referred to figures from the Association for the Protection of the Constitution from 2022.
According to the report, in 2022, 61 percent of the 210 properties used by right-wing extremists nationwide were located in the federal states of Thuringia, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Berlin. Overall, the number of recorded properties used by right-wing extremists has almost doubled since 2017 (136 properties).
As early as 2020, the eastern German states had agreed to exchange more information on this topic as part of a security cooperation. A handout has now been created that describes the situation. It also contains recommendations for those responsible in the municipalities and private property owners on how to prevent attempts to buy.
