While the Upper Austrian is still in second place, the last difficult mountains before the destination Atlantic City are soon to come.

Last night, Kaufmann’s group left St. Louis behind and crossed the Mississippi. They are currently in the US state of Indiana, where they have passed Greensburg, the 40th of 52 time stations. In the race, they are around five hours behind Swede Jimmy Ronn, and around three hours behind Lukas is Dominik Meierhofer from Salzburg. The leading trio have been racing in this constellation for several days.
But the situation could soon change again, because the Appalachian mountain range with its steep ramps is on the agenda in the next state, West Virginia. So far, Lukas has covered almost 3,800 kilometers.
“The last day was very good. After a low point the day before yesterday, Lukas is making good progress again and he seems fresher again. After the Mississippi, he is in a good mood again and is driving hard. So far he has had about nine hours of sleep breaks, but now we have had longer sleep times than 30 minutes. That is also important for the body and mind,” describes team leader Thomas Hölzl, who recently experienced a pleasant surprise with his team members: “When we passed the Blue Barn Hill Farm, we were greeted happily by the family with their ten children. They have been supporting the participants and their supervisors for many years. We were all able to shower on the farm – except for Lukas – and were given food and drinks. That was an incredibly positive surprise. In general, people always come to the side of the track with their US flags to cheer on the participants.”
