The 19-year-old was seriously injured in the incident on Saturday evening, police said on Sunday. She suffered multiple scalds and was taken to hospital.
According to reports, an argument had previously broken out between the two in their shared apartment, during which the 61-year-old is said to have poured a bucket of hot water over the 19-year-old. According to a police spokesman, the man wanted to use the water to shower because the shower wasn’t working.
The police are now investigating the man for grievous bodily harm.
