For almost 40 percent of Mühlviertel residents, housing is a financial burden

For the SP mayor of Gallneukirchen, Sepp Wall-Strasser, the topic is not new. In 2016, as deputy mayor and head of a working group, he conducted a survey among the people of Gallneukirchen together with the JKU. The result: living here has a high quality of life, but it is too expensive. The situation has not improved since then, as a recent survey by the Ifes Institute on behalf of the SPÖ parliamentary group for the Mühlviertel has shown.

Housing more important than climate, work and asylum

Almost one in three Mühlviertel residents surveyed (31 percent) say that housing and the cost of living are the most important issues that the state government should address. Only then come the climate crisis and environmental protection (20 percent), work and wages (11 percent) and asylum and migration (10 percent).
