A four-year-old boy who fell from a second-floor window onto asphalt in Weyer (Steyr-Land district) on Monday afternoon and was critically injured was in a stable condition by the evening. The boy was cared for in the children’s intensive care unit at the Kepler University Hospital (KUK) in Linz on Tuesday morning, but was due to be transferred to a normal ward during the course of the day or on Wednesday, said a spokeswoman. His life was no longer in danger.

The child had been playing with his six-year-old brother in the bedroom. When the mother went to the toilet, the boy climbed from the bed onto the windowsill. He probably leaned on the fly screen in the open window. However, it didn’t hold and he fell about nine meters down, the police reported. When the 26-year-old returned from the toilet, she heard her child screaming outside. The Syrian woman ran outside the apartment complex, picked up her son and ran with him in her arms to relatives nearby. The boy was flown to the Kepler University Hospital.
