Witnesses and victims stated that there had been provocations before the incident and that a scuffle had subsequently broken out between five to ten people. There were no other incidents related to the matches of the European Football Championship taking place in Germany in Vienna on Saturday, police spokesman Philipp Haßlinger said when asked by APA.

The district of Favoriten also remained quiet. The ÖBB fan zone at Vienna’s main train station was closed on Saturday for security reasons. The authorities had warned of particularly large crowds, so the ÖBB suspended public viewing on the station forecourt that day.

When Austria lost to Turkey in the round of 16 (1:2) last Tuesday evening, there were several incidents at the main train station during the game and after the final whistle.
