The first Maximarkt was opened in Linz’s Neue Heimat district 55 years ago. After a modernization in 2003, preparations for a renovation have now begun. The restaurant has already been closed, an escalator is being turned and stabilizing columns are being installed.

Despite the work, customers should be able to continue shopping without disruption, said Maximarkt managing director Thomas Schrenk at a press conference on Thursday. There will be a break between October and February 2025 to allow for a quiet Christmas business period.
