It makes a difference whether the Greens are in government, stressed top candidate Werner Kogler, warning that other parties could reverse what has been achieved in the environmental field. After the election, a government of “constructive forces” is needed. But only with the Greens can it be guaranteed that the FPÖ will not come to power.
Kogler dished out a lot
In the election campaign, one is surrounded by populists from the left and right, whose ideas are mostly dubious, Kogler said, and had little to say about the competition. The Greens are the only party that is committed to socially acceptable climate protection, “where there is also something in it for the economy.” The ÖVP is slowing down on this issue, “but we are getting our way.” The SPÖ is making concrete wherever they are allowed, and in the FPÖ, the “climate change deniers” are merging with the “Putin friends.”

In Kogler’s view, given the recent flash floods in Austria, even right-wing populists should be aware of how urgent climate protection is. “Anyone who doesn’t want to see this either has an intelligence problem or is malicious and has a different agenda. We will make that very clear in this election campaign, it’s not just comfortable.” At the same time, he appealed to see climate protection as an opportunity to establish leading companies in Austria and create crisis-proof jobs for young people, instead of clinging to “the old philosophies of improvement.”
