“Immature”: Vorwärts squandered a 3-1 lead and conceded four goals in the second half

Vorwärts coach Markus Eitl: “We are not bad away from home, but we have a result problem.”

Coach Markus Eitl felt like screaming after SK BMD Vorwärts Steyr’s 3:5 defeat at SPG Wallern/St. Marienkirchen. His team gave away gifts one after the other, completely lost the plot in the second half and, after leading 3:1 at halftime, slid into a debacle in the fourth Upper Austrian derby of the season – if you look at the result after the break. The red and whites remain without any notable success away from home.

“There was a lot of immaturity on our part,” says Eitl, and he doesn’t hold back with his criticism of his players. The first three goals conceded were completely unnecessary. Until the score was 3:3, his team had done what they had planned. “It was a good match on both sides, we could have even made it 4:1 and we had a few great chances at the start of the second half,” says Eitl, “but if we then concede four goals in one half, what I’m saying is of course complete nonsense.”

The red and whites got off to a brilliant start in Wallern. Pepe Breckner’s shot hit the crossbar, but Michael Martic scored immediately afterwards to make it 0-1 (8th minute) – the Steyr team’s first away goal of the regional league season.
