The majority seems to get along well with the situation, only 16 percent of allergy sufferers stated that they were severely or very affected in everyday life. This was the result of a current online survey by the Linz opinion research institute Spectra with 1000 participants.
The most common symptoms are a running nose and sneezing, 79 percent complain. 55 percent suffer from itchy or watery eyes, 21 percent feel itching in the throat or in the ears, 11 percent get rashes.

37 percent of allergy sufferers use nasal sprays and nasal drops to mitigate the symptoms, 36 use antihistamines. 24 percent do without medication, including significantly more women (29 percent) than men (14 percent). To do this, men are subject to immunotherapy more often (14 percent), only five percent of women do so. The population cut is nine percent.
In order to reduce the pollen pollution, 42 percent change clothes every day, around a third protects with sunglasses, only ventilates at the recommended times – early in the morning or in the evening when fewer pollen fly – and does not hang out for drying. Every fourth allergy sufferers washes their hair every day, almost a fifth uses pollen grilles and air filters.
