The number of wallets with a Bitcoin reached one million for the first time, which implies a new all-time record for the cryptocurrency with the largest market capitalization. Despite the milestone, the number of daily active wallets fell to 2021 lows.
According to CoinDesk, Bitcoin wallets with more than one token crossed the one million mark on May 15. In total, around 190,000 wallets with one BTC have been added since the beginning of February 2022, which represents a 20% increase year to date.
The surprising thing is that wallets with a Bitcoin or more shot up particularly between November and January 2023, and coincided with the collapse of the FTX cryptocurrency exchange and the strong price movements caused by the event.
But, conversely, the number of active Bitcoin addresses sending or receiving funds fell to its lowest level since July 2021. Specifically, the number of daily active addresses fell below 820,000 in May from 1. 24 million registered in January 2021.
