The artistic director of the Mayakovsky Theater Mindaugas Karbauskis wrote a letter of resignation of his own free will, the press service of the theater told Izvestia on Friday, February 25.
“This morning, February 25, Mindaugas Karbauskis wrote a letter of resignation of his own free will from the post of artistic director of the Moscow Academic Theater. Vl. Mayakovsky and handed it over to the Department of Culture of the city of Moscow. According to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, the Department of Culture must terminate the contract with him in two weeks, ”the report says.
Earlier on Friday, it became known that the Bolshoi Theater canceled the premiere of the ballet The Art of Fugue, scheduled for March 30. The choreographer Alexei Ratmansky, who was the director of this performance, left Russia.
The press service also quoted Ratmansky as saying: “When the time comes, I hope to return to Moscow to complete this production.”
Ratmansky set the ballet The Art of Fugue to the music of the work of the same name by Johann Sebastian Bach. At the Bolshoi Theater there are such performances of his as “The Bright Stream”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “Russian Seasons”.
The creative career of the choreographer after graduating from the Moscow Choreographic School began at the National Opera Theater. T.G. Shevchenko in Kiev. In 2004-2009 he was artistic director of the Bolshoi Ballet. Since 2009, he has been a permanent choreographer for the American Ballet Theatre.
