Brazil: Bolsonaro leaves clinic – arrest warrant against ex-minister

Watch the video: Ex-President Bolsonaro released from US hospital.

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro left a hospital near Orlando, Florida on Tuesday. A video shows Bolsonaro entering a home in a so-called gated community in Kissimmee, Florida. He was hospitalized for intestinal problems on Monday – a day after hundreds of his supporters stormed key government buildings in the capital, Brasilia. At the same time as he was released from the clinic, an arrest warrant was issued in Brazil for one of his ex-ministers in connection with the storming. A judge on Brazil’s Supreme Court had ordered the arrest of Anderson Torres, who just this month became head of public security in Brasilia. He previously served as Bolsonaro’s justice minister. Torres, who was ousted from office Sunday, was out of town at the time of the riots. He had flown to Florida earlier in the month. In a Tuesday tweet, the ex-minister said he would cut short his family vacation in Florida and return to Brazil to “take care of his defense.” It was initially unclear whether Torres met with Bolsonaro in Florida. The judge ruled also announced the arrest of the chief of Brasilia’s military police. Details of the charges against the two were not yet known. However, the arrest warrant notes that they failed to provide adequate security measures. Sunday’s attacks happened a week after President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was sworn in and seen as the worst attack on Brazil’s democracy in decades, another Supreme Court judge took stock of the damage to the courthouse in Brasilia on Tuesday in a tearful tear Statement asked Judge Gilmar Mendes: “How did we get to this point omen?” He then added: “We must do everything we can to prevent something like this from happening again”. On Sunday, supporters of Bolsonaro stormed the presidential palace, congress building and the Supreme Court.
