Repeat election: coalition negotiations in Berlin: start working groups

In the Berlin SPD, the planned coalition with the CDU is controversial – the Jusos in particular have made that very clear. However, potential allies are picking up the pace.

The first specialist working groups met on Monday at the coalition negotiations between the CDU and SPD in Berlin. According to dpa information, negotiations were initially pending in the areas of budget and finance, building and housing, work and social affairs, as well as media and culture.

The first working groups should already be finished on Saturday and pass their results on to the umbrella group. The core team of negotiators from the CDU and SPD decides what will ultimately be included in the coalition agreement.

The umbrella working group with top politicians from both parties such as CDU state leader Kai Wegner and SPD state chairmen Franziska Giffey and Raed Saleh will meet for the second time on Wednesday morning. Among other things, the preamble to the coalition agreement will be discussed. On April 3, the CDU and SPD want to present the joint coalition agreement.

Criticism from the Jusos

There is criticism of the cooperation with the Christian Democrats in some SPD district associations and especially among the Jusos. A motion by the state board entitled “NoGroKo – Berlin only works with the left” received a large majority of the delegates at a Juso conference on Saturday.

If the coalition agreement is nevertheless confirmed at a CDU party conference and by a member vote of the SPD, it can be signed shortly afterwards. At the beginning of May, the House of Representatives could then elect Wegner as the first Governing Mayor of the CDU since 2001.
