Ministry: Trittin zu Fall Graichen: “Targeted campaign”

Family connections in the Ministry of Economic Affairs recently caused a stir. Green politician Trittin speaks of a “mistake” that needs to be corrected, but also senses a “campaign”.

After the controversial appointment of Michael Schäfer as managing director of the German Energy Agency (Dena), the Green politician Jürgen Trittin believes that a new procedure for filling the post is appropriate. “There was a mistake,” said the former Federal Environment Minister on Wednesday on Deutschlandfunk. “And that’s why it’s being corrected now.” The tender must now be rolled out again.

At the beginning of the week, one of the most important employees of Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens), State Secretary Patrick Graichen, informed him, according to the ministry, that the designated new Dena managing director Schäfer was his best man. Graichen was a member of a selection committee that Schäfer had suggested for the post. Both Habeck and Graichen spoke of a mistake.

The opposition sharply criticized this and other family connections in the Ministry of Economic Affairs. CDU General Secretary Mario Czaja called for Graichen’s dismissal and, given the ties, expressed doubts about Habeck’s administration. Trittin called this “a targeted campaign” fueled by the Union.
