US government: “Big press conference” – Biden irritates with announcement

The announcement of a mysterious press conference caused irritation – and promptly fueled the debate about the age of the President.

US President Joe Biden has caused confusion by announcing a “major press conference”. “I’m going to give a big press conference this afternoon. I love you all, but I would like to ask you to leave (…)” Biden said on Friday afternoon (local time) after a public appearance to the press present. This had previously called out questions to Biden.

The problem with Biden’s announcement: Nothing was known about a planned press conference. Normally, the President’s public appointments are published the night before – there was no press conference on Friday’s agenda. Media began to wonder what the mysterious press conference could be about.

Then, in the afternoon, the White House announced, in its usual fashion, that the President’s public appearances were closed for the day. No reference was made to the announced press conference. US media, citing the White House, reported that Biden’s announcement was based on a recording of an interview with MSNBC that was scheduled to air on Friday evening (local time).

The alleged press conference caused malice on the Internet and fueled the debate about the age of the President. The 80-year-old regularly attracts ridicule with slips of the tongue. Biden entered the White House in 2021 as the oldest president ever. The Democrat had announced a week ago that he wanted to run for a second term in next year’s election. Biden will be 81 when elected in a year and a half, and he would be 86 at the end of a possible second term.
