Former NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen is organizing the Copenhagen Democracy Summit this week. His goal: an alliance against autocrats. In conversation with the star he outlines Ukraine’s path to NATO – and explains why Olaf Scholz and his partners should give Kiev security guarantees as quickly as possible.
Mr. Fogh Rasmussen, during your time as Secretary General, NATO seemed like a relic from the Cold War era. Today, the alliance is more important than ever. Would you like to be back in your old position at the head of Allianz right now?
(laughs) No. I’ve always valued my work, as Danish Prime Minister, as NATO Secretary General, and now, as President of my own consulting firm. I have never looked at my past with envy, but have always enjoyed the present. Now I can freely express my opinion.
