The reception marking the anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany at the Russian embassy last week caused a stir. Guests included former Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schröder and his wife Soyeon Schröder-Kim. For the latter, the celebration now has professional consequences: Schröder-Kim has been released from her job as a representative for the “NRW.Global Business” company. As a spokeswoman for the state’s foreign trade promotion company dem star confirmed, Schröder-Kim was relieved of her duties with immediate effect.

Ms. Schröder-Kim worked as a representative for “NRW.Global Business” in South Korea. A service contract existed between her company and “NRW.Global Business”.

“Last week it became necessary to legally examine the termination of the service contract. This examination has now been completed. Ms. Schröder-Kim was released with immediate effect and the service contract will be terminated by NRW.Global Business” without notice.

“Previously, ‘NRW.Global Business’ had repeatedly pointed out to Ms. Schröder-Kim that she should be cautious in public on politically sensitive issues, especially with regard to the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, and not to speak out,” the spokeswoman continued.

According to this, “NRW.Global Business” had already proposed to its shareholder, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, at the end of last year to end the employment relationship with Schröder-Kim.

Reception at the Russian embassy caused a stir

The reception at the Russian embassy on May 9 caused a stir. Against the background of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, many politicians from Germany had declined an invitation.

A few, however, had answered the call to celebrate Nazi Germany. Photos from the reception became public, at which, in addition to the Schröder-Kim couple, AfD co-group leader Tino Chrupalla, ex-AfD party leader Alexander Gauland, and the former deputy leader of the Left Party, Klaus Ernst, were also present.
