For days, Chancellor Olaf Scholz wore an eye patch – but now his eye, which was injured in a jogging fall, apparently no longer needs this protection.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has said goodbye to his much-noticed pirate look. For a week and a half, the Chancellor appeared at public events wearing an eye patch – on Tuesday he appeared without the medical accessory for the first time since his sports accident. The swelling and abrasions on the Chancellor’s face had clearly healed, but the remains of a bruise were still visible as dark shadows around his eye.

The audience was able to see this for themselves at the peace meeting of the Catholic Community of Sant’Egidio in Berlin, to which Scholz gave a speech. At the G20 summit in India at the weekend, the Chancellor showed up wearing an eye patch.

The 65-year-old Scholz fell while jogging and fell on his face. Since then he has worn a black eye patch because of his facial injuries. The Chancellor’s somewhat daring look attracted a lot of attention, especially on social media. Mockers advised the Chancellor to wear the eye patch permanently to make his appearance more striking.
