Former US President Donald Trump has dismissed concerns about the age of his successor Joe Biden. During an hour-long interview on SiriusXM radio, host Megyn Kelly asked him: “There was just a poll in which 77 percent of Americans say that Joe Biden, at 80, is too old to be president. Are they right?”
“No, not because of age,” Trump replied. “I have a lot of friends who are in their 80s. I have friends – Bernie Marcus (US entrepreneur and founder of a hardware store chain, editor’s note) – who are in their 90s and they are still very smart. I would say “They’re pretty much the same as they used to be. No, not old. He’s incompetent.”

Trump, like Biden, wants to become president again in November 2024 and, according to surveys, the election will actually amount to another duel between the 2020 opponents. Trump is already 77 years old and, if elected, would be 82 at the end of his term in office.
“Age is interesting because some people are very sharp and some people lose weight, but you also lose weight in your 40s and 50s,” Trump continued, before clarifying what he thinks of Biden: “But no, he is at all “Not too old. He’s extremely incompetent.”

“You look at some of the great leaders of the world, they were in their 80s and they were doing… I mean, Churchill, so many people. They were phenomenal in their 80s,” Trump said. Biden, on the other hand, was not the smartest even 25 years ago.
In a poll by the Associated Press (AP) news agency and the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago last month, 77 percent of respondents said Biden was too old to stay in the White House for four more years. And it wasn’t just Republican supporters who largely shared this opinion (89 percent), but also 69 percent of Democrats. In the same survey, 51 percent of all participants and 71 percent of Democrats said Trump was too old to be president.
Trump’s rival in the race for the Republican presidential nomination, Ron DeSantis, also poses the age of Biden and Trump as a problem: “The office of president is not a job for someone who is 80 years old,” said the 45-year-old in a statement on Tuesday Interview. “We need an energetic president.”
Trump himself vehemently defends himself against all attempts to label him as too old for the top job in the White House. On his online network Truth Social last Sunday, the Republican complained in a series of posts about a survey in which the Wall Street Journal asked participants whether they thought the ex-president’s age was a problem. “A fake and probably rigged Wall Street Journal poll that came out of nowhere to mitigate the obviousness of the criminal Joe Biden’s mental incompetence asks about my age and mentality. Where did that come from?” Trump raged.
