Austria is mourning the loss of Brigitte Bierlein. The constitutional judge held the office of Chancellor for several months after the fall of the Kurz government.
Austria’s former Chancellor Brigitte Bierlein has died at the age of 74. This was confirmed on Monday by the Chancellery in Vienna. “She took on responsibility in a difficult time, out of love for the Republic and her homeland Austria. Our country owes her a great debt of gratitude!” wrote Chancellor Karl Nehammer on the Platform X. The constitutional judge took office in 2019, a few days after the fall of the government of former Chancellor Sebastian Kurz. She was the first woman to head an Austrian government. The civil service government she led ran the business for around seven months.
